China IC Industry Revenues Reached 65.32 Billion Yuan in 2018
According to Xinhua Net, China IC industry sales revenue reached 65.32 billion yuan in 2018, with a compound annual growth rate of 20.3% between 2012 and 2018.
Of the overall 2018 revenue, 25.193 billion yuan, or 38%, came from China IC design sales, compared to 35% in 2012. Manufacturing revenue accounted for 18.182 billion yuan (28% of the total vs. 23% in 2012), and packaging revenue represented 21.939 billion yuan, or 34% – a decrease from 42% in 2012.
While low-end products continue to dominate, IC design scale in China is improving – Ren Aiguang of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology claims advanced designs have reached 7nm. Memory developments are ongoing and 14nm logic processes will ramp into production shortly, but a two-generation gap remains compared to other countries’ advanced processes. The gap for IC packaging and test is smaller, but a better mix between high-end and industrial applications is needed.
