Geely Automobile and LG Chemical Form EV Battery Joint Venture

Korean battery manufacturer LG Chemical announced it has signed an agreement with China Geely Automobile to establish an electric vehicle (EV) battery joint venture.

According to the announcement, by the end of 2021, the JV will build a power battery factory with an annual production capacity of 10 gigawatt hours (GWh). Starting in 2022, the batteries produced will be supplied to Geely for its EV cars sold in China.

The registered capital of the JV is US$188 million, to which each party will contribute 50 percent.

Geely Automotive launched its new brand of EV car, “Geometry,” in April, and it plans to launch more than 30 new models of pure electric cars it the next two years.

KONKA Group Building Semiconductor Optoelectronics Industry Park in Chongqing

To speed development of its semiconductor business, KONKA Group has signed a collaboration agreement with the Bishan District Government of Chongqing City to build a semiconductor optoelectronics industry park. Investment in the first phase is 7.5 billion yuan.

In 2018, Konka successfully developed an 8K decoder chip with independent intellectual property rights, and launched a series of industry-leading OLED TV, AI face recognition TV, semiconductor display TV, wallpaper TV and “K-fresh” fresh-keeping refrigerator products.

In October 2018, KONKA Group built a technology industrial park in Sichuan Province that included printed circuit board (PCBs) and electronics projects. In January 2019, the company announced it would build a memory business unit and scientific research innovation center in Hefei, featuring projects from domestic and international semiconductor design companies and IC industry chain projects.

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 Goes on Sale

The newest version of Xiaomi’s fitness bracelet, Xiaomi Mi Band 4, features several improvements over the former version. It has a 0.95-inch BOE AMOLED – 39.9% larger than that of the Mi Band 3 – that can be customized with 77 different dial themes. It’s also equipped with a 235mAh battery.

The band comes in NFC and non-NFC versions. The NFC version can support functions such as heart rate monitoring and transportation card, smart lock control, mobile payments, etc. The NFC version also features an AI smart voice recognition system to enable voice control of these functions.
