BOE Will Beat Samsung on Folding OLED Screen Supply

According to a statistical report from IHS Markit, the biggest three smart phone screen suppliers from January to March of this year were Samsung, JDI and BOE, with 0.4% market share separating JDI and BOE.

Kim Seong-cheol, senior president of Samsung Display, said that BOE will exceed Samsung on folding OLED screen supply next year based on orders from Huawei and Xiaomi, but he insists that Samsung’s Galaxy folding screen phone will be of higher quality than BOE’s solution.


Gospell’s High-end Electronic CCLs Certified by MIIT

Gospell announced that its high-frequency microwave, high-density packaging copper-clad laminates (CCLs) and ultra-thin copper foil solutions used by electronic circuit have been certificated by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The high-frequency microwave and high-density packaging CCLs for electronic circuits have gained market recognition, and can be used as an alternative to imports for communications, power amplifiers, filters, tuners and base station antennas.

Gospell began investing in high-frequency microwave CCL technology in 2008. At present, annual production capacity can reach 1.5 million m2, and related products have been verified by many communication companies. The company’s Microwave Electronic Ceramics Engineering Technology Research Center of Hunan Province has developed high-frequency, high-speed plates, which can be used to solve multi-laminated materials for 5G high-frequency microwave CCLs.


Tsinghua AI Institute Establishes Smart Vision Research Center

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Institute of Tsinghua University is opening a new Smart Vision Research Center to explore third-generation visual AI theory. The center will develop key core technology for trusted security in smart vision and will push development of new applications for highly reliable “Smart Vision+”.

Currently most AI businesses in China are focused on image recognition and vision. Deep learning only provides a good mechanical classifier for vision, such as image recognition, but it is far from human visual perception. The new research center will try to explore machine vision theory based on third-generation AI, building an open innovation international academic exchange and industry collaboration platform.

This is the seventh center set up by Tsinghua AI Institute. The previously established centers include the Knowledge Intelligence Research Center, Auditory Intelligence Research Center, Basic Theory Research Center, Intelligent Robot Research Center, Intelligent Human-Computer Interaction Research Center, and Intelligent Information Acquisition Research Center.
