Tsinghua University AI Institute Launches Smart Robot Research Center

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Institute of Tsinghua University has established its Smart Robot Research Center. The center will combine the latest developments in the fields of AI, cognitive science, biomaterials, bionics and other disciplines, cooperating with other AI Institute centers to research robot active sensing, cognitive learning and flexible manipulation. The center will also work with leading companies, both within and outside of China, that are driving the transformation of smart robot technology.

According to the center’s director, a multi-modal sensing dexterous hand developed at the Smart Robot Research Center can achieve the world’s highest degree of perceptual mode and resolution, and the device has demonstrated unmatched dexterity.

CanSemi to Ramp First 300mm Fab Line in September

CanSemi has moved the lithography machine it purchased from ASML into its main warehouse, and plans to ramp its first 300mm line to production in September. The first phase will produce 90nm-180nm devices, and the second phase, 65nm-90nm devices. Products will include microprocessors, power management chips, analog chips, and power discretes.

Guangzhou CanSemi Technology, Inc. is the first 300mm fab in Guangzhou, located in Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, Guangzhou Development District. CanSemi is focused on building a complete ecosystem by providing a platform for IC design houses, OSATs, application markets and funding groups.

Investment in the CanSemi fab totals 7 billion yuan, and the fabrication site covers 140,000 square meters. Once at full production, monthly capacity will be 40,000 300mm wafers containing devices for 5G, automotive, AI and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
